Current and Upcoming Change Management

>>Catalyst 9800-40 Wireless Controller (02/27/2026 23:45:00)

 The Catalyst 9800-40 Wireless Controller will be upgraded to a current Cisco-recommended IOS-XE Maintenance Deployment release during a scheduled maintenance window to improve security, stability, and overall wireless performance. This upgrade includes remediation for published Cisco security advisories and high- and critical-severity vulnerabilities affecting IOS-XE, including fixes for web interface authentication weaknesses, privilege escalation risks, management-plane protections, CAPWAP control-plane hardening, denial-of-service conditions, and updates to underlying Linux and OpenSSL components. In addition to security enhancements, the release provides bug fixes and operational improvements such as improved access point join stability, enhanced roaming performance, reduced memory leaks, and increased high-availability resiliency. During the upgrade, wireless services will be temporarily interrupted while the controller reloads, and access points and clients will reconnect automatically once the system is operational. Configuration backups will be completed prior to implementation, and a rollback plan will be in place to restore the previous software version if necessary. This change ensures the wireless infrastructure remains secure, supported, and aligned with vendor best practices.

>>Campus Firewall upgrades (03/14/2026 22:00:00)

 The campus core/edge firewall, and VPN firewalls will receive a firmware upgrade. There will be a 10 minute outage for VPN access, and two brief 1-minute outages for campus network traffic.

>>KC-CSRV-HOME1/HOME2 migration to UM-AD (03/18/2026 17:00:00)

 These servers will be migrated to the UM-AD domain.

>>RADIUS Authentication Server Upgrades (03/21/2026 10:00:00)

 UMKC Networking will be upgrading the campus RADIUS servers to their newest recommended software version and then applying recommended patches. The RADIUS servers are configured for redundancy, which should allow authentication, including wireless, to continue during the entire upgrade and patching process.
